Dr. Marc A. Rabinoff

Position: 
Professor, Human Performance, and Sport Department, at Metropolitan State College of Denver

He has taught human movement related classes for over 40 years and now teaches and directs a new program he developed called “Sport Industry Operations.” This program deals with the “business side of sport” and prepares students to be employed at professional sport facilities, work in risk management, sport insurance/liability and stadium operations.

Dr. Rabinoff is also president, Rabinoff Consulting Services, Inc of Littleton, Colorado, a Sport and Leisure Operations and Risk Management Company devoted to providing standards of care to professionals in this discipline.

Dr. Rabinoff is Board Certified as a Forensic Examiner with the American Board of Forensic Examiners, and holds Diplomate status as well as being an elected Fellow in the American College of Forensic Examiners.  Dr. Rabinoff has taught the Ethics seminars and the CFC(Certified Forensic Experts) courses for the ACFE and is a co- author of the book, “The Forensic Experts Guide to Litigation: The Anatomy of a Lawsuit”.

Dr. Rabinoff has been retained as an expert in over 300 litigations since 1980, and integrates this work into his classes so his students can get real life data on what he calls the “Dark Side of Sport and Leisure”. He has authored many articles, book chapters and has been an invited speaker at numerous national conferences to present sessions on fitness/ exercise equipment fraud, dangers of backyard trampolines and sport related injuries as well as the Ethics of Forensic Examiners. He has published a new book, entitled,” The Dark Side of Sports: A Personal Journey through a Sports Liability Lawsuit-Book One”, published by Bigger, Faster, Stronger Magazine, Salt Lake City, Utah, January 2009.

He has appeared on ABC 20-20, GoodMorning America, the Today Show, Oprah Winfrey, MSNBC, and Fox News as an advocate for consumer safety in sport and exercise. He was the featured expert in an article in Men’s Journal Magazine, May 2002 on” Infomercial Product Rip Offs”. His work on the “Ab Energizer” for Fox News in May 2002 in part lead the FTC to file suit against the three biggest Ab Stimulator gadgets which ripped off millions of consumers. His latest national media appearance was on April 3, 2008 on CBS Early Show, on “Unqualified Personal Trainers and Lawsuits Resulting From Bad Training Advice and Programs”.

Since 1994 to the present, Dr. Rabinoff has been a featured expert in numerous articles in many professional and lay journals. Since 2004 to present he has written or was quoted in “Bigger Faster Stronger Magazine”, (numerous times) and writes the regular column the “Dark Side of Sports”. This is a publication dedicated to teaching weight training and conditioning safely and appropriately geared to High School and College coaches.

Dr. Rabinoff was a featured expert in “Smart Money” magazine in an article entitled “10 Things Your Fitness Club Won’t Tell You” by Resha Kapadia, January 2007 and in the New York Times in an article entitled “Those who can do and those who retire teach” by Abby Ellin, April 12, 2007 about personal trainers who were athletes and now over night are personal trainers with no academic training. His latest consulting interview to the media was in March 2009 in Woman’s Health Magazine in an article entitled: Get More from your Trainer by Dimity McDowell.
